Policosanol
Policosanol - Policosanol from cane sugar
Healthy blood lipid levels and cardiovascular effects. Antimicrobial and sebum control effects (potentially useful in managing inflammatory skin conditions, particularly acne). Octacosanol, from sugarcane wax. In cosmetic, found to have antimicrobial and sebum control effects that are potentially useful in managing inflammatory skin conditions, particularly acne..Extracted from cane sugar, Policosanol from Sabinsa provides 70 to 90% of Policosanol, or 60 to 70% of Octacosanol (therefore C28, the other fatty acids being other aliphatic alcohols such as tetracosanol, hexacosanol, heptacosanol, triancontanol, etc…).- Nutrition: the main properties are linked to the effect on cholesterol metabolism and anti-oxidant efficiency, and therefore against related concerns, in particular cardiovascular. The recommended dose is 10 to 20mg per day.
- Cosmetics: sebum control (2% to 5% study), inhibition of microbial activity, hydration and suppleness of the skin, but also anti-inflammatory. The recommended dosage is 1 to 2% (or even 0.5% in the case of sebum). The role of Policosanol in cosmetics and personal care is also described in a 2007 Sabinsa patent (# 7,217,546 for skin, hair and nails) for a 70% product.
