Hesperidin - The flavanone glycoside from oranges

Hesperidin is a glycoside-flavonoid polyphenol, found especially in citrus fruits, especially in sweet oranges (Citrus sinensis, up to 500mg / L). Hesperidin has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is involved in the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), therefore the oxygenation of muscles at work, due to the dilation of the vessels induced by the blood flow.
Several animal studies have also proven the cardioprotective effect of hesperidin, including a reduction in atherosclerosis. Hesperidin is believed to promote lysosomal biogenesis in chronic ethanol-induced cardiotoxicity (rat study); In vitro studies have explained its role against inflammation by its action via IL-1β in human osteoarthritis chondrocytes. Citrus hesperidin is believed to protect against L-methionine-induced hyperhomocysteinemia by eliminating oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction and neurotoxicity (study in rats).
Finally, recent studies reveal new pharmaceutical properties: in addition to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacities, it reduces cholesterol (and blood pressure), and decreases the loss of bone density. Hesperidin has also been shown to protect cell integrity by reducing the number of cells undergoing apoptosis.
In cosmetics, hesperidin (HES) is thought to regulate inflammation (anti-inflammatory effects of traditional Korean medicine, JinPi-tang and its active ingredient, hesperidin in HaCaT cells).

Edible fruits and vegetables - Extracts from our usual diet

Because our current diet remains our primary source of micronutrients, and "nature does nothing in vain" (Aristotle).
Differnt actives may be extracted from fruits (corresponding to the juice or sometimes to the whole fruit), especially polyphenols (Anthocyans, flavonoids, glycosides flavanone, herperidin, etc....).
